Real Talk By: Ms. Throwback Heather Kiley
Super Smash Brothers is one of the rare video game series that never disappoints. For their respective times each game has been a masterpiece, mainly due to the playable characters, interactive items, and unique environments. The latest version hit us with online play, a big step for Nintendo and it was phenomenal. We’ve hit the topic at random in a few other articles but this is the big one! What do we want to see out of Nintendo’s next big SSB title? Let’s start with whats obvious:
New Characters and lots of them!
Nintendo has already announced Villager from Animal Crossing, Rosalinea and Luna, Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer, Pikmin and Olimar, and Little Mac to the list of playable characters. Why not bring back every smash brothers character ever created? That would give us 47 playable characters, and that doesn’t even include new ones that we are hoping to see. Cranky Kong, King K. Rool (Make a deal with Microsoft), Chibi-Robo, Paper Mario, Ghirahim, and Waluigi are just some of the characters I can think of off the top of my head. Nintendo prides themselves in making each character balanced with the others, over the span on time however they have been able to achieve this and though it would take tons of time and resources, I’d rather see a ton of characters in the game and wait a little longer.
More New Stages, and make it downloadable!
Next to the Characters the interactive stages might be one of the most important aspects of the series. Battlefield, Dr. Wiley’s Castle, Garden of Hope, Palutena’s Temple, Pyrosphere, Skyloft, Smashville, Smash Bros. Arena, Super Mario Galaxy, Wii Fit Gym, Windy Hill Zone, and Wuhu Island have been announced for the upcoming title so far. I don’t see them adding all past stages as it might become a little overwhelming and Nintendo is sure to keep the classic favorites in the game so what else could we expect. Remember in old Mortal Kombat where you could punch your enemy into a new stage, wouldn’t it be excellent if there was a setting that would randomly switch up your stage when one player went flying off the screen? It has to happen! We need it, and when it does, you heard it at playlegit.net first. What’s wrong with making stages downloadable content as well. Many fans would be ready and willing to throw their wallets at such a cause. I smell opportunity Nintendo.
The Internet Discovered.
After purchasing Titanfall this week I am totally on board with basing a game solely around online play. The developers of the title described how much more time, effort, and resources it took to create a single player campaign mode and online multiplayer. Super Smash Brothers always has and always will be a multiplayer experience. While I would expect them to keep the multiplayer version offline, I would like to see the focus go into a high quality online experience rather than any sort of single player mode. Smash Bros. is always a long-lived title on its respective system. This is a game that is going to be played online across the world for 20 years or more, why not invest in your fans now, we sure hope they don’t skimp.
Wii U Controller and DS Madness!
There are endless possibilities when it comes to the interactivity of the game related to the Wii U screen and the DS. It would be nice if you owned both copies of the game that you gained some special items, abilities, stages, or something of the sort right off the bat. Not only would it create record sales for Nintendo (not that it won’t anyway) but it would keep the fans happy with spending money for both games. As usual the Wii U screen could be used by another player to aid or annoy the other players on-screen. We expect you will be able to take the game to bed with you and keep playing with the Wii U controller, but what would be even more amazing is if you could switch all content between your DS and Wii U and take it on the run with you anywhere you go. Maybe the player could tag themselves in a certain location so other players could join them in a public place with their DS. We expect score boards and auto replay of course, but maybe even a DS notification that one of your friends has gained more achievements than you. It’s an obsession waiting to happen.
What are your Smash Brothers 4 Demands?
