Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Review: The Next Frontier

Real Talk By: T-42

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare or CoD:IW is the latest entry in the Call of Duty series.  On the surface IW is a game with a lot of potential. However, once you unwrap the contents there is a lot to be desired.  First off lets talk about the single player story.  It took me roughly 8-9 hours to complete and that includes all the little side missions.  The story and setting will leave you wanting to do more with it.  So many times in this game they want you to stay focused on the task at hand, which leaves little to the imagination or improvisation of a mission.  This is the long time formula of CoD. This is one of those titles that could be great as a movie, working well in the theater but its depth is shallow.  I would love to see a game set in this universe as an RPG, with hours of game play.

Did I mention Infinite Warfare looks fantastic? It better considering the way the technology is today.  Every so often I thought I was looking at real people, if only for a second, before snapping out-of-it.  The sound design is also on par, and that means a lot considering a lot of space stuff to do.  Whether it’s Suit or Ship, You’ll enjoy the fantastic audio. For the most part the controls feel intuitive, but thank God for key mappings.  The space combat dog fighting is also a lot of fun, the controls felt right and I would have liked to see more of it used in the game for longer bigger missions.

Now lets talk about the elephant in the room.  Multiplayer and Zombies.  I will be honest right up front.  I am not into the CoD Multiplayer or Zombies but I will give you my review of it the best I can.  Not much has seemed to change with the formula in multiplayer.  Run in a circle check your 6 reverse course, shoot, bang-bang! If you liked all the other CoD games then you will like this.  Losing interest in the multiplayer style of CoD games? IW does nothing to change your mind.  I think Multiplayer needs more focus, and less customization.  Give us a lot of guns, but not everything needs so many layers.

Moving right into Zombies, I am disappointed.  I feel there is an opportunity to do something really great and it continues to fall short. You have this fantastic space-based game, why not do more with Zombies in space? All of this day one is $60.00.

I played on the PC.  However, if you have a console, I would say give this game a rent and play the Campaign.  It is a solid weekend play and fun for the most part. Other than that wait for the inevitable dip in pricing.
