Nintendo E3 2014: Bullet Point Truth

Ms. Throwback has your back, bringing you the bullet point highlights to this years Nintendo E3 press conference.

  • “Super Smash Bros.” for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U shows Mii Fighter’s.  Anyone can use their own Mii to join the fun in the latest rendition. Mii Fighter’s will come in three variety of fighting styles, brawler, swordfighter, and gunner. Each of the three can be customized with four special moves from twelve options.  The game will also feature new modes, and tons of added features that the company decided not to go into in detail.  The 3DS version will be releasing 10/3/14, while the Wii U version is set for release later this year.
  •  Nintendo also surprises us with a toy line to go with the Smash Bros. titles and other games in the future called “Amiibo.” Touching the toys to the Wii U game pad brings them to life on screen.  They announce Nintendo, Disney, and Skylanders as part of this line of products.  Data will not only be sent from the figure to the game, but each figure will then be sent stats back to them so that each persons figure is unique and opens up new possibilities in the title.
  • Amiibo will also work with titles that already exist such as “Mario Kart 8”.
  • “Yoshi’s Woolly World” for Wii U takes us through a game that looks much like Kirby’s Epic Yarn but with incredibly intense updated visuals. The physics and life breathed into the game looks amazing.  Yarn and fabrics create new game play elements and exciting puzzle aspects.  Two player co-op adds even more fun to the title. Look for the games release in 2015.
  • Originally a mini game from Mario 3D World, “Captain Toad Treasure Tracker” is now a full blown title with Toad as the main hero.  Releasing the end of this year for Wii U, the title features an impressive array of puzzle platforming.
  • “The Legend of Zelda” for Wii U releasing 2015 looks absolutely incredible.  They have turned the game into a completely open ended world, much like Skyrim.  The developer speaks about how this will change the entire face of puzzle solving in the title.  The player no longer has to follow a set path, but has free range exploration at their finger tips.
  • The announcement of “Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire” shown for the 3DS in a cell shaded art style.  The titles will be available 11/21/14.
  • New cut scenes and in game play is played for “Bayonetta 2” Large bosses in epic battles across a large playing field leave us wanting more.  The game is packaged with the original Bayonetta game as well, making this title worth every penny. Look for its release October of this year.
  • Link also stars in a new series this year “Hyrule Warriors” which includes a two player element, releasing 09/26/14.  Each player will have their own screen, one as the television and the other as the Wii U control. Many of our favorite characters show up as playable in the game including Link, Zelda, Impa, and Midna.  The moves and amount off enemies on the screen seem highly interesting.
  • “Kirby and the Rainbow Curse” bring the hero back to life with a new element, clay.  Bright scenes are shown on the Wii U controller with a release date of 2015.
  • Over the top space scenes are shown in an anime realistic style.  “Xenoblade Chronicles” features mech suit battles and Japanese language with subtitles along with a release date of 2015.
  • “Mario Maker” features the original levels of Mario with the ability to manipulate the environment and create your own unique levels.  Simple on screen tools can be used with the stylus to place blocks, enemies, or pipes wherever you like.  The levels can then be played through in the original 2D Mario style or the new 3D version.  The title will come to the Wii U in 2015.
  • A teaser trailer at the end of the conference introduces a two new characters the the Super Smash Bros. fight, “Lady Palutena” and “Dark Pit” from the Kid Icarus series.
  • The new title “Splatoon” features funny creatures with squids for hair battling to claim turf in a paintball type fashion. The title is an 8 player four on four multiplayer online action game where players cover the map in their color to try and claim it as their own.  The characters change from people to squid, as a person the player can cover the map in their color, and as a squid the player can preform a wide array of other actions.  The game pad is finally put to good use in a title allowing the player to look up and down by doing it with the Wii U game pad.  This title seems very interesting already, look for a release in 2015.

  1. It’s nice to see at least one company feels like doing more than release an HD remake of a preexisting IP. Also, Amiibo sounds like a lot of fun. I sincerely hope this is something that catches on and it expands into something bigger than we all expected.

Thanks for the bullet points! 😀
