Microsoft Studios has purchased The Gears of War rights from epic games. A new title in the series is in development by a fresh studio known as: Black Tusk. Rod Fergusson is joining the company. Hopefully he insight will help keep the continuity within this series. More news is expected to come later this year.
Statement from Epic:
“Epic Games has reached an agreement to sell the ‘Gears of War’ intellectual property rights to Microsoft. We’re very proud of the franchise we built in close partnership with Microsoft over the past decade and are happy that this agreement enables Microsoft to forge ahead with the ‘Gears’ universe on their industry-leading platforms as Epic concentrates its efforts on new projects,” said Epic founder and CEO Tim Sweeney. “Epic remains totally dedicated to supporting Xbox One and is licensing the Unreal Engine 4 technology to Microsoft in support of their future projects.” Source Xbox Wire

This doesn’t bother me as much as it does others. I’ve always seen this as an Xbox game. So them having to secure the rights surprises me more since I thought it was just theirs to begin with. It’s also not like they will ruin the game, this is one of their biggest games. They did a good job with Halo, why would they mess up gears?
