San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Roundup

Real Talk By: Steph-O

Hey there folks. As I am sure you already know, San Diego Comic-Con was this past weekend. This star-studded, geektastic event was packed full with lots of exciting news. Here’s what I am the most excited about- and looking forward to!

This is the new full length trailer for Paranorman- LAIKA’s follow-up to their Oscar nominated film Coraline. A misunderstood boy who can speak with the dead takes on ghosts, zombies and, worst of all, grown-ups, in order to save his town from a centuries-old curse. Paranorman hits theaters August 17- can’t wait!

A trailer was released for Oz: The Great and Powerful, which will be in theaters March 8, 2013. Starring James Franco as Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz, and directed by Sam Raimi (the Spiderman trilogy), it’s definitely a film to look forward to this spring!

Robert Downey Jr. made an appearance to promote Iron Man 3, which will be in theaters May 3, 2013. The new suit was revealed (pictured below), although I have to say I am not a huge fan of the design. Hopefully the gold doesn’t overshadow the red so much when it’s in action.

More Marvel movie title and release date announcements include Thor: The Dark World (November 8, 2013) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4, 2014).

As for DC- Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel got a teaser poster, and will be in theaters June 14, 2013.

And finally, one of my favorite things about SDCC is the elaborate cosplay! As always, there were some amazing (and creative) costumes there, but here are a few of the more original ones I liked:

Scruffy the Janitor from Futurama, a Captain America USO Dancer, and not only a Millennium Falcon cosplay, but a sexy one!

So im a moderate Deadpool fan, he’s such a Comedic mofo. But also an individual you wouldn’t want to mess with. High Noon studios is the company developing his solo adventure. It will be interesting to see what storylines the game will tackle. Will he try to become a member of the X-Men? Again. With a reasonable development cycle, this company produces magic. The Non-Movie Transformer titles featured dazzling visuals and fun gameplay. I think the Merc with a mouth will be in good hands come 2013. Plus every one knows Nolan North needs another check.

The remaining Marvel movie announcement was Guardians of the Galaxy. These future warriors will finally hit the big screen. I’m predicting Rocket Raccoon to be the fan favorite of the flick. Just play Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. No footage was shown, but then again it’s not releasing until August 1, 2014 so it would have been too much of a tease.

Finally Godzilla is getting the reboot treatment. To be fair its a reboot of a reboot, now with 100% less Matthew Broderick. Legendary Studios will bring us the film. Coming out of this camp, we should expect a high level of CGI quality and action. Guess 2014 is the year to be alive, Godzilla joins the list of films to look out for. I’m thinking the movie will take a cloverfield approach teasing the monster, then “Whammy!” But its most certainly up in the air.
