Resistance 3 Campaign Review

Real Talk By: Vex

Is the third time a charm or just another failed attempt at the FPS crown? Resistance 3 is a science fiction first person shooter video game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 3. The game is the third title in the Resistance series and is the sequel to the PlayStation 3 launch title Resistance: Fall of Man then of course its sequel, Resistance 2.

The story starts in an underground outpost in Haven, Oklahoma where Capelli (the guy who killed the guy who stars in the previous games) and a group of survivors are living in secrecy. Their hope to stay hidden from Chimera is quickly crushed as Capelli notices a Terraformer (a massive, satellite-like weapon that destroys everything on the ground by firing a energy wave from the sky) moving towards Haven. They decide to evacuate the outpost when Capelli realizes that the Chimera were following Doctor Fyodor Malikov to the outpost. Malikov says that he finally found a way to stop Chimera and begs Capelli to accompany him to New York. Story-wise this is the strongest in the series. There is a strong feeling of despair and a lot of motive is given to survive. Where the other two games failed to draw you in, this one nails it in the head.

The story is complimented by the best graphics in the series. On your journey to the big apple you’ll soon see a varied set of backdrops to engage in battle. The character models and cinematics have an impressive amount of polish, making an already great story even more immerse. But are we watching a movie or playing a video game? How does the gameplay pan-out?

Here is were a dream of hot *()%$# with Beyonce turns into a nightmare being chased by Jay-Z with a gun in his hand. The game has an impressive amount of guns and they all are upgradeable into wild devices of Chimera torture. The problem lies with the AI. I have never been attacked by such a large group of idiots since the racist kids in school tried to jump me. Much like the fools in my Highschool, the AI got destroyed. Even when I ramped up the difficulty to the highest setting, I was flying through the game. It took me 6 hours to beat this so called 12 hour game. I was really enjoying the story and that’s what kept me going. It seems like most of the development team was in the graphics and story department, while the guys in charge of AI where making sure that this game could be be beat in your sleep.

I rented this from redbox, so i spent two bucks and not the whole sixty. I wouldn’t suggest spending the whole sixty either. I only was allowed to play the campaign because Sony is now trying an on-line pass to prevent losses from used game sales. I was not able to play multi-player offline to at least look at the maps, not even split-screen or co-op. They should have implemented some sort of timed trial, but I don’t think much was missed given what I’ve read.
It’s a shame that such great graphics and story get dragged down by poor mechanics, but if you do find this in the bargain bin don’t pass it up.

Resistance 3 campaign gets MF MF MF out of five

What’s Legit?

+Mind blowing graphics and story.

What’s perpetrating?

-The AI felt like they were the host at a restaurant welcoming you to their humble invasion.
-The Sony on-line pass.
