‘Batman: Arkham Origins Official Trailer’ hypes up Deathstroke

This lengthy trailer confirms the appearances of Gotham’s most notorious villains. Bruce Wayne is still adjusting to his cape and cowl, and these goons aren’t making it any easier for him. Players who pre-order now will get their hands on the Deathstroke character before everybody else. That’s right, he will be playable in all the challenge rooms, including two unique levels designed with him in mind. Were still waiting on a gameplay trailer, but this is awesome for the time being.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist ‘Coop Trailer’ (Sam Fisher gets a buddy)

So along with the solo missions, Spies vs Mercenaries, an extra Coop mode will be available on launch day.

The trailer boasts 4 different game variations within coop across 14 maps. The deck continues to stack as we get closer to the August 20 release date. On a side note, thank goodness they fixed the box art.

A knight is a person granted an honorary title of knighthood by a monarch or other political leader for service to the monarch or country, especially in a military capacity. Many of the knights in gaming have their own agendas, claiming knighthood themselves and not by someone to which they answer. Rouge knights who work for the dark side are not uncommon as are knights who choose a “take from the rich give to the poor” approach. Whatever the scenario, knights have been as prevalent to video gaming as ninjas or zombies, and for that they deserve an article to honor their hard work to the entertainment of players and stories to which they tell.

7. The Knights of Castle Crashers

The knights of Castle Crashers are a myriad of cute little guys that pack a mean punch. Each corresponding colored knight carries a different specialized weapon with which he can continue through the stages in a beat-em-up action packed adventure. Players can unlock additional characters in game by competing in arena events and team up with other knights online to play cooperatively. The big appeal of the Castle Crasher knights is their beautifully rendered art style and animation. Each scene is filled with the knights taking out their enemies in a bloody, explosive, chaotic fashion, making for some well deserved fun.

6. The Knights of Elder Scrolls

One of the greatest things about any of the Elder Scrolls titles is that the player can manipulate the game in whichever way they see fit. The player themselves can create their character based around knight-like morals on their own, being honorable, religious, and protective. Much of the high end armor in the game can be used to create any kind of knights look you desire. From shiny gold royalty knight to dark and demonic the possibilities are endless. In game you will come across many of your enemies (enemies being a very loose word in the game depending on whose side you are on.) that have been sworn into knighthood. The Death Knights of Skyrim can be accessed by downloading the latest update so feel free to enjoy the wide range of knights that Elder Scrolls has to offer. Elder scrolls gives players one of the only chances to experience knighthood as a female as well. It doesn’t get much more diverse than this.

5. Link – Legend of Zelda Series

Link isn’t usually thought of as a knight but if you know the history of the series you might think differently. In The Adventures of Link, two knights of Hyrule appear to teach Link their sword techniques. Several comics and Manga’s also give us incite into Link’s life, his father was a Knight of Hyrule who protected the royal family and thus he is a descendant of the knights of Hyrule. Although this isn’t mentioned outright in the games, several different games have Link obtaining magical items that are only available to the knights of Hyrule. He even encounters four Big Stalfos, transformed to enemies by Gannon’s magic, whom he must defeat in Four Swords Adventures to return them to knighthood. His honor to the knighthood and his service to princess Zelda make Link one of our most treasured knights.

4. Meta Knight – Kirby Series

Meta Knight is an interesting character in the Kirby series. Players are unable to make out if he is friend or foe as his actions speak to neither side. Meta Knight has helped Kirby by giving him invincibility candy, but then personally challenges him to battles later in certain games. Fans of the Kirby series were excited to see Meta Knights appearance in Super Smash Brothers Brawl where he takes on his enemies with a combination of extreme speed and skill. One of his greatest honors is that he does not take sides and players have never seen Meta Knight without his trusty knights mask.

3. Sir Daniel Fortesque of MediEvil

Sir Daniel Fortesque, a skeletal knight, graces us with his presence through the world of MediEvil. Brought back to life by an evil sorcerer, Sir Dan uses a variety of short and long range weapons to help him on his quest. If no weapons are available Sir Dan also has the unique ability to rip his own arms off and wield them as weapons. Dan is a knight that has experienced a second chance at life….I mean, death. He was in fact, struck down by the very first arrow fired in a battle he waged. Due to his life’s failures Dan has been unable to make it into the hall of heroes, determined to change this fact Dan vows to take down the evil king and earn his rightful place.

2. Siegfried Schtauffen – Soul Calibur Series

Siegfried is the offspring of a revolutionary father from the 16th century. His father, who was a veteran of the service, spend 15 years teaching his son the techniques of swordsmanship and battle. After his father leaves for war, Siegfried joins a band of thieves who decide to take out a battalion in the night. Successful in their endeavor Siegfried kills the commander only to realize that it is his very own father whom he has decapitated. Siegfried retreated to the woods where he became more insane and obsessed with finding the soul edge sword which he convinced himself was the reason his father was killed. After sneaking into battle and slaughtering thousands the sword transforms him into the Azure Knight, Nightmare.

1. Tanooki Mario Knight

One of our favorite Mario power-ups is the Tanooki suit which allows Mario to fly through the air, glide more slowly to the ground, and as many forget turn into stone knight Mario. Turning into the stone knight has several advantages, allowing Mario to shield himself from enemies and if he chooses to turn into the knight while in the air, comes crashing down on the head of his enemies in a thwomp fashion. Leave it up to Mario to be a super-hero-flying-racoon-stone-knight with a mustache. I’m sure no one else does knighthood quite like Mario.

This week’s Trailer of the Week is the Batman: Arkham Origins teaser! We don’t get to see much, but what’s there has us already excited for this October. As you may have guessed, Arkham Origins is a prequel to Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, taking place “before the rise of Gotham City’s most dangerous villains and assassins” with a Batman that is “young, raw, and unrefined”. We are looking forward to learning more as new trailers are released in the coming months!

Resident Evil Revelations: Wii U Preview

The best Resident Evil since number 4 is coming home.Revelations puts players into level one of the game. Jill is on board an abandoned ship in search of Chris Redfield. Right away you can see the difference between the 3DS to Wii U visuals. While this was always a great looking title, HD is only doing this game more favors. The main creatures look extra nasty (and shiny too). Players can experience this on the gamepad, or both.

When playing with the TV on, the gamepad acts as a map, and a really convenient way to navigate through items. this is an issue that usually plaques the series. It’s almost non-existant now. Great to see advantages that the 3DS version had were carried over.

More additions to this version include connectivity bonuses by linking your game to ResidentEvil.Net. Players will be able to unlock in-game extras by doing so. A new enemy was put into the game, and a harder difficulty mode known as “Infernal” will give everyone more of a challenge.

Raid mode returns along with the online coop. Rachel and Hunk have been added to the roster of playable characters this time around. This port doesn’t simply feel phoned in. The added bonuses, and visuals have peaked our interest. Will you take the plunge again?

Indie Spotlight: A Small Favor

Earlier this month, PlayLegit got together Steve Castro of ClickShake Games. We discussed our favorite childhood games, working in the game industry, and ClickShake Games’ current project, A Small Favor!

Steve, the programmer and game designer, runs ClickShake Games with Jay Ziebarth, the animator and storyteller. Steve described A Small Favor as a casual adventure-exploration side-scroller, influenced by Jay’s interest in point and click adventure games and his own interest in action side-scroller games.

The item focused game will feature a linear ‘A-quest’ story line as well as a ‘B-quest’ for side searching and extra exploring. Steve and Jay also want players to interact with the world in a different ways, and realized that their actions effect how NPCs will react. For example, pulling out a weapon may cause a villager to become hostile, while talking first may have allowed to you to get more information. Items gained throughout the game, like security badges and tools, will influence how players navigate the story and encourage them to re-explore earlier levels to find more hidden items.

We can also look forward to a variety of maps- from glittering cities to shady junkyards -showcasing the rich back story of this dystopian world. Steve also let us glimpse the early stages of underground map, with slum houses suspended from tree roots on a cave ceiling, where commoners fish from an underground lake using a pulley system (which acts as a ‘ladder’ in the game). There will also be technological elements in the maps to make each area unique, plus gritty and mysterious music!

What makes A Small Favor a must buy?

Its something fun for everyone with a rich story, with an open field.

What are some challenges you’ve come across in development so far?

We’re only two people. Trying to spread the word through Kickstarter, and develop the game at the same time, its tough juggling both.

Do you have any advice for other indie game developers out there?

Start learning everything you can. Take small steps.

Besides gaming (obviously), do you have any other hobbies?

I like to do a little parkour. We jump from rails to rails, just doing things to stay active!

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Review

“In the near future, at the end of the 20th century, the apocalypse has had an apocalypse.” What kind of apocalyptic apocalypse, you ask? On what scale does the first apocalypse relate to the second one? It doesn’t matter, and that is precisely the tone of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Only relating to Far Cry 3 in spirit, Blood Dragon is an absurd lovechild of Terminator, neon, dragons, neon, and Tron. Oh, did I mention neon? The world is largely pink and purple with a synth soundtrack that puts you 30 years in the past. With raunchy and foul humor in the same vein as Borderlands, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon has made me laugh the most of any game I have played since Portal 2. That says a lot because everyone tells me I look like Grumpy Cat. But more handsome.

The premise of Blood Dragon is fantastically awful: You are Sergeant Rex Power Colt on a mission to stop your former CO Ike Sloan from plunging the world into anarchy. This makes no sense whatsoever as there have apparently been 2 prior nuclear wars, with Canada now being a wasteland used to test new nuclear weapons. The world sounds to be relatively anarchist as the game begins, so how would one manage to make it worse? These are questions that no one asks because they are too busy killing cybersharks and robocrocs with arm mounted laser cannons while being chased by an army of cyborgs fighting a dragon that shoots laser beams from its mouth. This is by far the manliest game I have ever played. Can you equip the pistol from RoboCop or the shotgun from Terminator 2 , or even a minigun with sweat-wicking grips and a surround sound system in Call of Duty? Nope. I think I need your man-card, Treyarch.

As I mentioned before, some of the species from Far Cry 3 have been “improved” for Blood Dragon. The turtles are “mutated” (they don’t look any different, I’m assuming the developers desperately wanted to make a Ninja Turtles joke), the goats are missing flesh and are called Devil Goats, and the panthers are chrome. The addition of the Blood Dragon was very welcome and somewhat addressed my need for Far Cry 3: Jurassic Park Edition (seriously, I would pay another 60 dollars for that as long as I get to play as Jeff Goldblum). Combining a dragon with a Tyrannosaurus that glows was an idea that I wish I was cool enough to come up with. It shoots laser beams from its mouth and glows the color of stop lights so you know when you have pissed it off, and it eats humans and cyborgs alike, with a love for Cyber-hearts that you rip out of the chests of your fallen enemies. How can anyone not think that is the best thing ever?! Well, give it a top hat, monocle, and a British accent, and that is the greatest thing ever.

The cutscenes are all rendered in 16-bit style that will kick you right in the childhood. That is until the 16-bit sex scene comes up and you won’t know whether to laugh or feel extremely uncomfortable. “I wanna be blinded by your cyber love.” The voice acting is terrible, yet perfect at the same time. Michael Biehn (most known for Terminator and Aliens) stars as Rex and the one-liners just keep coming. They are entertaining until they start repeating, so after about 12 hours of pilfering Cyber-hearts I heard “heartbroken” puns a good 30-40 times. I mean some of these puns are so bad you would think they hired me to write them. If you are a good shot, beware of the headshot puns.

The gameplay is a ripped straight from Far Cry 3 so people who experienced one of the best games of 2012 will know exactly what they are jumping into. There are a few awesome additions, like not having to upgrade your inventory to hold 4 weapons or carry more money, running without ever getting tired, not having to breathe underwater, and being able to survive a jump from any height. You are Rex Power Colt, after all. The collectibles are VHS tapes and tube TVs and are easily found when you purchase treasure maps on floppy disks. Yes, floppy disks. Weapons can carry multiple upgrades at one time, and your assault rifle can be upgraded to a laser rifle with a clip that holds 180 rounds. My personal favorite new feature is the knife mechanic. When you aren’t near any enemies, your knife button produces a certain gesture that is typically intended to offend the recipient. Hilarity ensues when you finish knifing the enemy and flip it off. Why? Because you can, and that should be reason enough.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is already on my Best of 2013 list, and will more than likely be my favorite DLC of the year. Unless Bethesda teams up with GameFreak and makes an official Pokemon DLC to Skyrim, I cannot see how any extra content for a game can hope to go toe to toe with Blood Dragon. Killing cyborgs in an open world to music inspired by Predator, Terminator and John Carpenter’s The Thing is an instant classic in my book, and while Blood Dragon is far from classy or artistic, it is one of the most memorable (albeit short) experiences I have had the pleasure to play. At the low price of $15 dollars, there is no reason to pass on this gem. Unless you hate neon and hair metal, which I would say is the true definition of insanity.
