Mario Kart is a franchise held in high regard among gamers. Any gamer I ask about it Casual or non, all seem to love the pick up and play style that Mario Kart offers. In this seventh issue of Kart racing, Nintendo takes it to the third dimension. As far as the 3D effect goes, certain things will pop at you a mushroom to the face, level enemies etc. but overall the effects could have been magnified a little more. I will say the transition between 3D to 2D carries no slowdown and the effect shouldn’t hurt your eyes after long usage (If your over 7 of course).

The game offers 32 Tracks in total. MK7 feels like a highlight reel because several areas have been brought from Double Dash, 64, Wii, GBA all the way back to SNES. The plus is that it never really feels stale because of the newer mechanics implemented. Abilities such as hang gliding off of ramps, to collecting coins during a race increasing the speed of your vehicle. The new tracks deliver too, making for a heavy package of racing.

Put in work, and you’ll unlock more parts for your kart and characters. Those concerned about the replay value won’t have to worry. Unlocks after unlocks are here. You can race with your Mii and also in first person. The Gyroscope controls offer some extended fun as well, I just wouldn’t have that mode on while racing at Rainbow Road. Use it on the more simplified tracks to get the most enjoyment.

Speaking of enjoyment, the online is the meat of this one. The interface is very similar to the Wii version. Everybody chooses their track then the game will decide. Racing has been smooth for me every single time. As of right now not a drop of lag to be found. The various battle modes can be played online as well (Coin and Balloon Battle). Playing with friends online or off can be a lot of fun.

Thats what Mario Kart is all about, just having quality fun with your friends. Even if one person only has MK7, everyone with a 3DS can join in. With its memorable mechanics, newer stages and online functionality, Mario Kart is destined to clean up this holiday season. It’s the right price, and any gamer can easily get to business.
